A fellow ma-to-be on Tumbler was talking about how terrible round ligament pain is a while ago. That’s what I have when I sneeze and have that sharp pain. I thought, what a weinie. Besides fleeting discomfort, it’s really nothing.

Karma is a bitch.

I’m about 14 1/2 weeks along. While eating an uber-healthy lunch consisting of Chef Boyardee ravioli, I was hit with cramp-like feelings. I tried to breathe through it, thinking it was the usual minor stretching I’ve felt before, which usually doesn’t last long. But this didn’t go away. I felt better when I got up and walked around the office a bit, and even had a nice tantrum to a co-worker about it.

Obviously, pregnancy is stressful. There are so many scary things that can have a wide variety of symptoms, and many symptoms overlap with other cases, and most of the symptoms by themselves are normal or at least not serious. Trying to figure out what is causing a symptom or two is not easy. It’s nice to talk to someone like my co-worker, who’s down-to-earth and remembers a lot about her pregnancies (her girls are 4 and 6). As I wiped my tears and left the break room, I stiff-armed her into telling me I’m a cute pregnant woman. Not my finest 15 minutes.

Then, I sat at my desk again, with the pain mostly gone and forgotten. Until it soon returned! What the hell! Dr. Julie (my co-worker, who is not, in fact, a doctor) did some googling and said it’s probably round ligament pain.

Which made me think back to some “whiny” post about it before. They posted something like, “Ow, this really hurts! Anyone else dealing with it?” And I, being mature, professional, etc, slumped around work about it for entirely too long, cried, demanded chocolate, etc. Karma as its finest.

I called my doc and talked to his nurse, who confirmed that’s probably what it was, but it might be a little early for me. That is, she said, unless I’m a fairly small person who’s showing a bit already. I was like, YUP. She said no heat (shoot!) but Tylenol is fine. And it seems to be working!

In other news, Handsome Nick just dunked my oreo in milk for me. Now that’s what I call service.
